What Causes Low Testosterone?

In recent years there has been a lot of talk in the media about men experiencing low levels of testosterone. It is said that these low levels of testosterone are causing men to lose muscle mass, and energy among other things. Conveniently, the pharmacy companies have chimed in and have “taken care” of the problem by offering a variety of different testosterone treatments. Unfortunately, like many other pharmaceutical treatments, these treatments are not the magic bullet that they claim to be.

Low testosterone is a real thing, and treatments may be very beneficial for some men, but it is unwise for most. Many men who are taking supplemental testosterone have not even had their levels checked. These patients are receiving a treatment for a condition that remains undiagnosed by a medical professional. However, there may be a large percent of men with testosterone levels that are lower than they should be. These declining levels are not healthy, but treating them directly with the hormone isn’t always the answer.

Nature Finds A Way The body is designed to produce it’s own testosterone. What we need to do is to simply provide it with the right factors for testosterone production. The things that cause low testosterone levels are lifestyle choices and environmental factors. Giving our bodies more testosterone is not the answer because it does not solve the underlying root of the problem. The reason that a body sometimes doesn’t produce enough of the hormone is mainly because of poor diet, and lack of exercise. There are a few other reasons such as contaminated water, contact with harmful substances and poor air quality as well.

By making small and simple changes at a gradual rate, the human body will usually bring testosterone levels back up on it’s own. In the rare case that lifestyle choices don’t work then a testosterone treatment may be called for. However, by receiving outside doses of testosterone, the body will begin to produce even less than it has been. Therefore, a person that starts taking testosterone can not stop taking the hormone without making things worse. There are also unappealing and potentially dangerous side effects to be considered. Too much testosterone can cause aggression, mood swings, and even acne.

The weapons needed to fight against low testosterone are natural testosterone boosters. Some testosterone boosters help by raising the level of testosterone, and others work by lowering estrogen levels. Some specific testosterone boosters include zinc, magnesium, vitamin D, high quality protein, lifting weights, sprinting, sleeping, and avoiding estrogen boosting chemicals. If you want to learn more about naturally raising testosterone check out this post by the Art of Manliness Blog. A great post, and a great blog to check out for those interested in fitness, health and just living a better life.

If you’re thinking about taking testosterone, do all of your research first. Hormone replacement therapy is serious stuff. Remember that our bodies are meant to heal themselves, it’s just up to us to give them the right materials to do so. Giving our bodies pure testosterone is like giving a man a fish: he can only eat as long as you’re there to feed him. However, giving our bodies the right nutrients, and exercise while avoiding harmful substances is like teaching a man to fish: now he can eat for a lifetime.
